If the headline isn’t clear enough, The Burleson Buzz is returning to regular publishing.

That’s the only news I’m reporting in this newsletter, but Wednesday I’ll be publishing the first regular newsletter since I announced the hiatus in May.

That newsletter—along with all regular newsletter published every Wednesday hereafter—will feature links to articles published in The Buzz in the week prior to publishing the newsletter along with bits about happenings in the area and any personal updates I feel like sharing.

One article that will be featured in Wednesday’s newsletter will be a preview of the upcoming season for Burleson and Centennial high school football. I interviewed new Elks head coach Phillip Tanner—who’s ready to lead the Elks against the world—and long-time (all-time, really) Spartans head coach Kyle Geller about what their teams look like and what they think of the upcoming season, and I’m excited to share what I learned from them with you all.

The feature articles I’ll be writing for The Buzz, like this one about the upcoming football season, will be published on a monthly basis and will be about things I’m interested in. I know that’s vague, but my guilt complex can’t afford to announce specific topics due to the fear of feeling bad if I have trouble committing to said topics later on. However, I do plan to be more transparent and more myself in my writing as I “re-launch” this newsletter. So I anticipate that you will come to understand what interests me and won’t need me to be more specific on what I’ll be covering.

Ultimately I’m interested in learning about the community I live in, so that’s what I’m going to do. I’m going to identify interesting people, events and organizations and get to know them and share with my readers what I learn through some beautifully written articles. Aside from the article on the upcoming football season, I’m also working on a profile of Burleson’s friendly neighborhood Spider-Man.

For The Burleson Buzz to become Burleson’s version of The Star-Telegram or The Dallas Morning News or better versions of those, which is what I envision, the people contributing to it have to be writing about and covering things they’re genuinely interested in. I understand the newsletter must provide material that people are interested in reading, and I’m confident you’ll appreciate what The Buzz publishes.

In addition to publishing monthly features about interesting (to me) things happening around Burleson, I’ll also be covering sports every week (Thanks to my dad, Sports is one of the things I’m most interested in).

I’ll be going to a Burleson or Centennial football game every week as long as either team is playing, and I’ll be posting live updates and publishing a recap of the game. I’d love to cover more sports or even more games, but I can’t commit to anything more than one game each week.

Once football season ends, I’ll shift my primary focus to basketball, then baseball then…we’ll see. Baseball is the sport with the latest season before the high schools take off for the summer, so I’ll have to figure something out for that period. Luckily we’ve got time for that!

I’m not the only one contributing to The Buzz though.

Brandon Crisp, who ran for city council in May and lost (sorry Brandon), will be writing recaps of Burleson City Council meetings and profiles of people from Burleson.

Ashton Nicks of Peak One Sports Network will continue contributing to The Buzz with updates on the Cleburne Railroaders. Ashton and the rest of the Peak One gang are up to a lot of cool stuff, and I highly recommend checking them out and supporting them.

Lonnie Freeman, who has experience covering the Fort Worth Brahmas, will be helping me cover high-school football.

I’m very grateful to Brandon, Ashton and Lonnie for their contributions to The Buzz, and I’m really excited about expanding this newsletter beyond my own perspective.

I’m also incredibly grateful to you for reading and supporting this newsletter. One day, I hope to be writing and editing articles for The Burleson Buzz in an office in Old Town or perhaps at the Standard at Chisenhall with a view of Bailey Lake instead of doing it in my bedroom after getting off my actual job.
