Burleson independent journalist aims to become city’s most trusted news source
The Burleson Buzz is a newsletter written and edited by me, Cody O’Brien, a Burleson-based independent journalist, and I want it to be the most trusted news source in Burleson.
From The Burleson Buzz, you can expect a weekly newsletter containing a recap of the week, a weekend preview and a feature story. In addition to the weekly newsletter, I’ll publish timely stories when important events happen.
I started The Burleson Buzz after reading “Bad News: How Woke Media Is Undermining Democracy.” The book inspired me to create an independent and objective news source covering my city which hasn’t had a newspaper since The Burleson Star closed years ago.
Burleson needs an independent news source to report what’s going on in and around the city without an agenda. The city government, schools and businesses can share what’s happening on social media and in email newsletters, but that’s not objective or independent.
I want to use my writing, editing and communications abilities to deliver interesting and accurate news stories to my fellow citizens.
I’m a lifelong writer and journalism graduate of UT Arlington. I majored in journalism to pursue a career in writing. I’ve covered high school football for The Dallas Morning News and covered baseball, softball and tennis for UT Arlington. I’ve also written corporate-communications copy for Big Brothers Big Sisters and TD Ameritrade. I want to do more though.
My family moved to Burleson in 2007 when I was 11 years old. This city is where I met my best friends and my wife, and it’s where we’re raising our son. Other than a two-year stint in Fort Worth while I was in college, Burleson’s been my home since I moved here. I want my children and nieces and nephews to love their home as much as I do.
As Burleson grows, its institutions have to adapt to a larger and more diverse population. I’m interested in how the city government will represent all of us, how the schools will support so many students, how businesses will add value to our lives and more.
To become the most trusted news source in Burleson, I’m going to gather and report interesting information objectively and accurately in clear, concise and consistent language.
I hope you’ll support my work and subscribe to The Burleson Buzz today.
Thank you,
Cody O’Brien
