Centennial scored first as quarterback Iverson Moore rushed for 18 yards to put Centennial up 7-0 after the extra point with 8:35 left in the first quarter. Centennial never surrendered the lead.
Moore also completed a 16-yard touchdown pass to receiver Damien Long to give Centennial a 14-0 lead after the extra point with 1:29 left in the first quarter. Moore rushed for 32 yards and a touchdown on three carries and completed two of eight pass attempts for 21 yards, a touchdown pass and an interception.
Burleson’s touchdown came on an 18-yard rush by running back Jaden Flournoy to bring the score to 28-6 with 5:38 left in the fourth quarter.
Centennial head coach Kyle Geller said although the game was “ugly” and Centennial has a long way to go, the team worked hard for the win.
“Anytime that you can win the Boot game, it’s a happy night for the guys in blue, our school,” Geller said after the game. “You know, they get bragging rights for 365 days. That’s a big deal for our kids.”
Centennial looks to improve by avoiding false starts and breakdowns in pass-protection, Geller said.
Burleson quarterback Caden Ward rushed for 66 yards on seven carries and completed three of 10 pass attempts for 59 yards and two interceptions.
Burleson wide receiver Fabian Bosquez rushed for 49 yards on seven carries and caught a 17-yard pass.
Centennial also scored on a 1-yard rush by running back Jaxon Williams to bring its lead to 21-0 after the extra point with 2:55 left in the second quarter and on an 83-yard interception return by defensive back Mason Stancliff to bring its lead to 35-6 after the extra point with 46 seconds left in the game.
Centennial plays its next game against Frisco High School at 7 p.m. September 1 at Toyota Stadium in Frisco.
Burleson plays Frisco Lone Star at 7 p.m. September 1 at Burleson ISD Stadium.
