BURLESON – Katelyn Seeton and Carly Reed each scored nine points as the Centennial Lady Spartans beat the crosstown-rival Burleson Lady Elks 40-29 Tuesday at Burleson High School in both teams’ district opener.

After finishing the first quarter tied 7-7, Centennial (1-0 in district, 9-8 overall) outscored Burleson (0-1, 4-11) 8-4 in the second quarter and 25-18 in the second half.

The junior center Seeton and junior guard Reed led Centennial with nine points each.
Burleson sophomore guard Kenzie Kimbrell also scored nine points to lead Burleson.
Centennial junior guard Lyric Caldwell added eight points. Sophomore guard Layla Levels added six, and senior guard Kallie Connelly and junior guard Ellie Stanley each added three.
Burleson junior post Samara Nixon added seven points, junior post Aubreyona Menefield added six, and senior guard Audrianna Mitchell, sophomore guard Taylin Murphy and sophomore guard Izzy Buchanan each added two.
This was Centennial’s second-straight win and Burleson’s fourth straight loss.
Centennial will look to maintain momentum when it faces the 2023-24 undefeated District Champion Mansfield-Timberview Lady Wolves (7-8 overall in 2024-25) Friday at 5:30 p.m. at Centennial High School.
Burleson will try to get back in the win column when it faces the Joshua Lady Owls (1-0 in district, 9-8 overall) Friday at 6:15 p.m. at Joshua High School. Joshua beat the Everman Lady Bulldogs (0-1, 7-5) 55-46 Tuesday at Everman High School in their district opener.
