Changes to the publication
The Burleson Buzz is changing to two separate weekly publication and one monthly publication and continuing to inform readers of vital news on local government, development, sports and more
Hello, readers.
I’m making some changes to The Burleson Buzz to be more efficient and, more importantly, more efficient with my time.
I’m going to be regularly publishing two newsletters every week — The Burleson Buzz Weekly Newsletter every Friday at 8 a.m. and The Burleson Buzzer-Beater sports-report every Monday at 8 a.m. — and “Baking with The Buzz” the first Wednesday of every month at 8 a.m.
The change from publishing one weekly newsletter along with at least one (usually more) separate article every week is going to allow both myself and readers to have clearer expectations and allow this newsletter to be what it’s supposed to be — a newsletter, not a newspaper.
The difference between this and a newspaper is that this is mostly a one-man endeavor, and that one man (me) is only able to be a journalist outside of working a regular full-time non-journalist job. Because of that, this newsletter is shorter and less detailed than a traditional newspaper. However, like a traditional newspaper, I’ll continue to publish important information I think everyone in the area should know.
My focus remains on being a trusted news source, and I’m still confident this can grow into a traditional yet modern news outlet with multiple contributors. The changes I’m making should deliver a better product that will lead to that growth.
The weekly newsletter will continue to feature links to news articles, news briefs and The Buzz Bulletin, a list of events happening around Burleson in the coming week. The news in the weekly newsletter will continue to cover the latest from the Burleson government, development around the city and more.
The Burleson Buzzer-Beater will be a return to a regular weekly report on sports around Burleson, primarily Burleson and Centennial high-school team sports. I’m going to publish weekly reports instead of regular post-game recaps because recapping every game in real-time is just not something I can do while working on this outside of my regular full-time job.
Baking with The Buzz will continue to be a monthly (we took March off) recipe-share from my wife, Alissa O’Brien, the best baker I know. While we originally started this to give me more content to publish, she’s now doing it because she enjoys it. And I’m happy to share with my readers the delicious and aesthetically-pleasing desserts she loves to make.
Another important change will be the cutting of regular city-council meeting recaps. While I’m going to continue publishing what I think is vital news on Burleson-government events, that coverage will be more focused — I’ll be covering city-council meetings for specific agenda items, not for the whole agenda.
These three publications are different sections in The Burleson Buzz, and readers can subscribe and unsubscribe from any publication at anytime. If you’re only interested in city government, feel free to only subscribe to the regular newsletter. If you only want the latest on local sports, you can just subscribe to the Buzzer-Beater. If you’re only here for Alissa’s tasty desserts, “Baking with The Buzz” can be your only subscription.
I want to make sure everyone receiving these emails actually wants them, so please feel free to adjust your subscription to match your interests.
Thank you so much for reading, sharing and supporting this newsletter.
Sounds like a good plan…. I enjoy every part of the info you provide.. Whatever works !!!
