The Burleson City Council will meet Monday at 5 p.m. at City Hall to consider opting the city out of two lawsuit settlements.
The city is considered a “class member” in two contaminated drinking-water lawsuits, “City of Camden, et al. v. 3M Company, Case No. 2:23-cv-03147-RMG (D.S.C.),” and “City of Camden, et al. v. E.I. DuPont de Nemours and Company, et al., No. 2:23-cv-03230-RMG (D.S.C.).”
The council will convene in executive session, then vote whether to approve deputy city attorney Matt Ribitzki’s recommendation to authorize the city attorney to opt the city out of the settlements Monday.
The city can opt out of the settlements before December 4.
What is the advantage of opting out of the settlement?
What were the reasonings for the recommendation?
What effects would the city experience if the council does not vote to opt out?
What is the disadvantage of opting out?
Is there any money involved in opting out? If so, which council members stand to gain financially by opting out?
