Cleburne wins three straight, then loses four straight to fall to 11-12

CLEBURNE, Texas – The Cleburne Railroaders fell to 11-12 on the season and sit in fifth place in the East Division after going 3-4 last week.
Cleburne started the week by winning the first three games of a four-game series against the Sioux City Explorers in Cleburne, then lost four games in a row, including a three-game sweep by the Kansas City Monarchs in Kansas City.
The offense stood out for Cleburne as they won the series against Sioux City, outscoring their opponent 39-20. Outfielder Delino DeShields went 6 for 15 with a home run in the series.
Cleburne starters Kevin Hilton (1-2) and Kody Bullard (2-0) earned wins in the series as they each pitched at least five innings and gave up less than four runs in their respective starts.
Hilton allowed one earned run on eight hits and a walk and struck out two batters through seven innings pitched as Cleburne beat Sioux City 15-3 Tuesday.Â
Bullard allowed four runs on seven hits and two walks and struck out five batters through five innings pitched as Cleburne beat Sioux City 13-7 Wednesday.Â
Cleburne came from behind to beat Sioux City 6-4 in the first game of the series Monday. They scored three runs in the bottom of the 10th inning to win after giving up a run to give Sioux City a 4-3 lead in the top of the 10th.
Cleburne lost the final game of the series against Sioux City 6-5 Thursday. Reliever Joe Corbett (0-1) gave up three runs to give Sioux City a 6-3 lead in the top of the 10th inning. Cleburne scored two runs in the bottom of the 10th but fell short of a comeback in the loss.

Cleburne’s offense slowed against Kansas City as they were outscored 17-7 en route to being swept. Cleburne managed just 10 base hits in the series compared to the 45 they notched in the four-game series against Sioux City. Outfielder Zach Nehrir and infielder Jose Sermo were the only Railroaders with multiple hits in the series.
Starter Riley Smith (2-3) gave up three runs on five hits in two innings pitched and received the loss as Cleburne lost 7-2 to Kansas City Friday.Â
Cleburne lost 3-2 to Kansas City Saturday despite starter Michael Mariot’s efforts. Mariot (1-1) allowed two runs on three hits and two walks and struck out seven batters through five innings pitched in the loss. Reliever Joe Shaw (1-1) surrendered the game winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Cleburne lost game three to Kansas City 7-3 Sunday as Hilton’s second start of the week didn’t go as well as the first. Hilton received the loss as he gave up five runs on eight hits and a walk through six and 2/3 innings pitched in the loss.
Cleburne is now in fifth place, four games behind the Chicago Dogs in the East Division of the American Association of Professional Baseball.
Cleburne will start a six-game series against the Gary SouthShore RailCats Tuesday at 6:45 p.m. in Gary, Indiana. Gary SouthShore has lost five of their last six games.
