Burleson’s own shooter-athlete Conner Prince qualified for the Olympic Games Paris 2024 after the U.S. Olympic Trials – Shooting Shotgun Part 2 in Tucson, Arizona, March 11-17.
The Centennial High School graduate Prince, 24, qualified for the U.S. Olympic men’s and mixed skeet teams. Prince is honored to represent his country in the Olympics, especially since only two men make the Olympic skeet team.
“Getting to be one of those two people is quite an honor – to represent the United States at the highest level is truly special,” Prince said.
Prince’s memory of walking off the field after the qualifying event is vague, he said, but he remembers looking at his dad and asking if he really just made the Olympic team. He said his parents are on top of the world with him knowing their son is an Olympian.
Joining Prince on the men’s skeet team will be his coach Vincent Hancock, who Prince considers the best skeet-shooter in the world. Knowing how good Hancock is, Prince felt there was really only one spot available on the Olympic skeet team, which added to the pressure he felt at the qualifying event.
“On the first round, I quite literally was shaking on each shot,” Prince said of his experience at the event, which he considers the most stressful event of his life.
