BURLESON – Ife Durodoye led the Northwest Texans (8-1) with four touchdowns in a 38-20 victory over the Centennial Spartans (6-3) Friday at Burleson ISD Stadium.
Durodoye’s longest touchdown came on a 41-yard rush to give Northwest a 31-14 lead over Centennial after a successful two-point conversion with 6:01 left in the third quarter. His first touchdown came on a 39-yard rush to give Northwest a 7-0 lead over Centennial after the extra point with 9:12 left in the first quarter.
Durodoye rushed for 244 yards and four touchdowns on 24 carries in Northwest’s win.
Northwest gained 485 yards of offense in the game and outscored Centennial 21-6 in the second half.
Centennial fumbled on Northwest’s five yard-line with the score tied 14-14 with 29 seconds left in the first quarter following a 68-yard pass from Iverson Moore to Damien Long.
Long scored on a 30-yard pass from Moore to tie the game 14-14 after the extra point with 10:26 left in the second quarter. Long caught three passes for 127 yards and two touchdowns.
Long’s other touchdown came on a 29-yard pass from Moore to cut Northwest’s lead to 38-20 with 27 seconds left in the third quarter.
Moore completed six of 16 pass attempts for 154 yards and two touchdowns in Centennial’s loss.
Following Centennial’s fumble on Northwest’s five yard-line, Cole Confessore intercepted a pass from Leddie Thompson to get the ball back for Centennial on Northwest’s 30 yard-line with 11:26 left in the second quarter.
Northwest blocked a Centennial field-goal attempt that would’ve given Centennial a 17-14 lead with 10:13 left in the second quarter.
Thompson completed eight of 12 passes for 152 yards and a touchdown and threw an interception and rushed for 34 yards on four carries in Northwest’s win.
Northwest is in third place of 5A-1 Region I District 3 behind the Ryan Raiders (6-2) and Aledo Bearcats (9-0). Northwest plays Ryan at 7 p.m. November 3 at NISD Stadium in Justin.
Centennial fell to fifth place behind Aledo, Ryan, Northwest and The Colony (5-5; 5-3 in district).
Centennial plays its final regular-season game of 2023 against the Azle Hornets (3-6) at 7 p.m. November 3 at Hornet Field in Azle.
