Jackson rushes for 200-plus yards as Burleson beats Joshua 45-35
Nate Jackson led the Burleson Elks (2-6) with 221 rushing yards in a 45-35 win over the Joshua Owls (0-8) October 20 at Burleson ISD Stadium.
Jackson rushed for 221 yards and three touchdowns on 23 carries in Burleson’s win.
Jackson was nominated for Performance Course’s Athlete of the Week for his performance. Lindale Eagles’ quarterback Clint Thurman won the contest over Jackson, earning 108 of 289 total votes. Jackson earned second place with 83 votes.
Burleson (2-3 in district games) is in sixth place in the 5A-2 Region II District 5 standings one game behind the Ennis Lions (3-5, 3-2 in district) for fourth place.
Burleson faces Ennis at 6 p.m. Friday at Ennis-Lion Memorial Stadium in Ennis. The game time was changed to 6 p.m. from 7 p.m. due to weather.
Centennial ends losing streak, beats Brewer
The Centennial Spartans varsity football team (6-2) ended its two-game losing streak in its 35-14 win over the Brewer Bears (3-5) October 20 at Bear Stadium in Fort Worth.
Centennial is in fourth place in the 5A-1 Region I District 3 standings behind the Aledo Bearcats (9-0), Northwest Texans (7-1) and Ryan Raiders (6-2). Centennial lost to Aledo 42-0 October 13 and to Ryan 35-14 October 6.
Centennial faces Northwest at 6 p.m. Friday at Burleson ISD Stadium. The game time was changed to 6 p.m. from 7 p.m. due to weather.

Mosquito-spraying in Zone 22
Burleson will spray for mosquitos between 9 p.m. Friday and 6 a.m. Saturday and between 9 p.m. Saturday and 6 a.m. Sunday in Zone 22 after discovering a West Nile-positive test in the area.
Haunting for Deaf/Hard-of-Hearing Awareness
Frank Walters Foundation is hosting a “Haunting for Deaf/Hard-of-Hearing Awareness” event from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Hidden Creek Sports Complex. The event will feature a silent auction, a costume contest, games, prizes and more.
Dogs and Donuts
Burleson Parks and Recreation is hosting a Halloween-themed “Dogs and Donuts” event from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Burleson Bark Park that will feature a dog costume contest, donuts and apple cider.
Business over Breakfast
The Burleson Area Chamber of Commerce will host its monthly member-only “Business over Breakfast” event from 7:30 a.m. to 9 a.m. Tuesday at the Burleson Recreation Center (BRiCk). With the event being on Halloween this month, there will be a costume contest along with the usual guest speaker, business spotlight and networking opportunities.
