MIDLOTHIAN – The Burleson Elks varsity baseball team is still searching for its first district-win after losing 10-0 to the Midlothian Heritage Jaguars Wednesday at Heritage High School.
Heritage took a 5-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning and never looked back. After scoring four more runs in the third, Heritage scored in the bottom of the sixth to increase its lead to 10 runs, forcing the game to end on a mercy rule since they played at least five innings.
Five of Heritage’s 10 runs were unearned as Burleson committed five errors in the loss. The win gives Heritage the season-sweep over Burleson after beating them 7-6 in their first matchup Tuesday.
Burleson collected five hits in the loss, two from sophomore first baseman Xavi Medina who went 2-for-3 at the plate. Sophomore pitcher/right-fielder Joe Villavicencio hit Burleson’s only double as he went 1-for-2 with a walk.
Heritage starting-pitcher Landon Brewer earned the win as he shut out Burleson through five innings, surrendering four hits and three walks and striking out one batter.
Burleson (0-4, 5-11) is tied for ninth place in District 8-5A and will look to bounce back and earn its first district-win against Mansfield-Summit Friday at 2 p.m. at Summit High School.
