EVERMAN – The Burleson Elks surrendered 354 yards as the Everman Bulldogs (5-2) beat Burleson (1-5) 47-6 Friday at J.E. Marr Stadium.
Burleson struggled to stop Everman running back Kay’Den Brooks, who rushed for 206 yards and four touchdowns on 14 carries and caught two passes for 22 yards and a touchdown.
Brooks’s fifth touchdown of the night came on an 85-yard rush to increase Everman’s lead over Burleson to 40-6 after the extra point as the third-quarter clock expired. He also scored on a 49-yard rush on the second play of the game to give Everman a 7-0 lead with 11:48 left in the first quarter.
Burleson’s Nate Jackson scored Burleson’s only touchdown on a 25-yard rush to cut Everman’s lead over Burleson to 20-6 with 1:29 left in the second quarter.
Jackson led Burleson with 71 rushing yards and the touchdown on 12 carries.
Everman’s Terry Gray and Jayshaun Scales also scored rushing touchdowns for Everman.
Everman quarterback Jarion Basped completed five of 17 passes for 41 yards and a touchdown and rushed for 52 yards on four carries in Everman’s win.
Burleson threw for one yard as quarterback Caden Ward completed one of six pass attempts. Ward rushed for 18 yards on eight carries.
Burleson committed eight penalties in the loss.
Burleson’s next game will be against the Joshua Owls (0-6) October 20 at 7 p.m. at Burleson ISD Stadium.
