BURLESON and MIDLOTHIAN – The Burleson Lady Elks varsity basketball team’s playoff-fate will be determined by a game between the Mansfield Summit Lady Jaguars and Cleburne Lady Yellow Jackets Tuesday in Mansfield.
If fifth-place Summit (8-7 in district, 12-21 overall) beats Cleburne Tuesday, they’ll tie the fourth-place Lady Elks (9-7, 17-13) and get to play them in a playoff-tiebreaker game. If Cleburne beats Summit, the Lady Elks secure fourth-place and clinch the playoffs.
The Lady Elks missed an opportunity to clinch the playoffs as they lost 38-34 loss to the Midlothian Lady Panthers Friday in Midlothian.
Lady Elks head coach Brenda Gomez stated the team shot badly Friday and went 0-for-14 in three-point attempts.
A bright spot in the loss for the Lady Elks was senior forward Kendall Carlock’s game-high 16 points.
The crucial loss came after a 51-36 win over the Joshua Lady Owls on Senior Night Tuesday at BHS Arena. Brinkley Hall, E’marie Lewis and Courtlyn Middlebrook each scored double-digit points in the win.
Senior guard Hall scored a game-high 14 points against Joshua. Senior guards Lewis and Middlebrook each added 12 points.
Hall and Middlebrook led the Lady Elks with two made three-pointers each. Lewis went six-for-six from the freethrow line.
Lewis announced on X (Twitter) her commitment to play basketball at Western Texas College Tuesday. Lewis will play at Western Texas with Lady Elk teammate Carlock.
