Hickey and McCurry power Lady Spartans to Regional Semifinal victory
STEPHENVILLE – The Centennial Lady Spartans varsity softball team won the 2024 5A Region-One Semifinals Series with a 7-1 game-two win over the Abilene Lady Eagles Saturday at Tarleton State University.
Junior catcher Madelyn Hickey and senior third-baseman Hannah McCurry drove in six runs in the game-two win.
Hickey went 2-for-3 with the game’s only home run, a double and four RBIs. McCurry went 3-for-4 with a double, two RBIs and two runs scored.
Hickey’s home run was a two-run shot–scoring McCurry–that brought the score to 7-0 in the bottom of the sixth. Her double scored McCurry and junior right-fielder/shortstop Madison Haynes to increase Centennial’s lead to 3-0 in the bottom of the third.
In the at-bat before Hickey homered, McCurry hit a two-run double to left to bring the lead to 5-0 in the sixth.
Lady Spartans hit three home runs, take game-one of Regional Semifinal behind another Lindemuth complete game
STEPHENVILLE – Olivia Martin, Madison Haynes and Ryanne Stephens each homered and Bailey Lindemuth pitched a complete game as the Centennial Lady Spartans varsity softball team beat the Abilene Lady Eagles 13-2 Friday at Tarleton State University in game-one of the Regional Semifinals.
In her fifth complete game of the 2024 playoffs, the senior starting pitcher Lindemuth surrendered two earned runs off five hits and a walk and struck out seven batters over seven innings.
Railroaders slow down, drop four straight after hot start
CLEBURNE and LINCOLN – After starting hot and winning their first four games of 2024, the Cleburne Railroaders dropped four straight against the Winnipeg Goldeyes and Lincoln Saltdogs.
After beating Winnipeg 5-4 Saturday and 1-0 Sunday in Cleburne for their third and fourth straight wins to start the season, the Railroaders lost the last two of the six-game season-opening series. The team failed to replicate the consistent pitching paired with solid offense that helped them jump out to the 4-0 start.
