The record-setting 24-win Lady Spartans were eliminated from the playoffs with a Bi-District Championship loss to Argyle
HALTOM CITY – The Centennial Lady Spartans varsity basketball team was eliminated from the playoffs as they fell 68-27 to the Argyle Lady Eagles Tuesday at W.G. Thomas Coliseum.
The Lady Spartans hung in at first, trailing 9-8 at the end of the first quarter but were outscored in every quarter thereafter. Argyle outscored the Lady Spartans 17-2 in the second quarter to take a 26-10 halftime lead and never looked back.
“First quarter we executed, but we didn’t sustain the rest of the way,” Lady Spartans head coach Brooke Robinson stated after the loss. “We needed to match that intensity each possession.”
Argyle outrebounded the Lady Spartans 31-20 and out-assisted them 17-5.
Lady Spartans sophomore guard Lyric Caldwell led the team with nine points and two assists and added four rebounds in the loss.
Junior center Kyla Mohan led the Lady Spartans with seven rebounds. Senior forward Jordyn McNeal led with three blocks.
The Lady Spartans (11-5 in district, 24-11 overall) set the team-win record in the 2023-24 regular season as they finished third in District 8-5A before losing the Bi-District Championship Tuesday.
“This team has grown a lot and came a long way from last season,” Robinson stated. “They worked hard in the offseason and made it their mission to make it to the postseason.”
