CLEBURNE, Texas – The Cleburne Railroaders lost ground last week, losing four of six to the Chicago Dogs. Cleburne fell to fifth place in the East Division, four games behind Chicago for second place.
It started with Travis Perry (6-7) surrendering eight earned runs off 10 hits through five innings pitched in a 16-8 loss to Chicago Tuesday. Perry also surrendered four runs through six innings in a 6-2 loss in the series finale Sunday.
Tanner Riley (0-2) surrendered six earned runs off seven hits through three innings pitched as Cleburne lost 8-2 Wednesday. Riley also surrendered the game-winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning as he pitched 2/3 innings of relief in a 4-3 loss Saturday.
Kasey Kalich (4-2) earned the win as he struck out six and held Chicago to two runs through five innings as Cleburne beat Chicago 16-5 Thursday.
Kevin Hilton (7-3) pitched the only quality start for Cleburne as he went seven and 2/3 innings and allowed two earned runs in Cleburne’s 4-2 win Friday. Cleburne has won three straight with Hilton starting.
Johnathon Tripp (3-2), in his third start for Cleburne in 2023, pitched five and 2/3 innings, surrendering three earned runs off seven hits. Tripp has a 3.30 ERA in 16 â…“ innings pitched for Cleburne in 2023.
Hill Alexander led Cleburne with nine hits last week, including a three-home run, six-RBI game in Cleburne’s 16-5 win Thursday. Alexander has 22 home runs in 2023.
Jose Sermo also hit three home runs this week, adding to his team-leading 24 home runs on the season. Sermo went 8-for-24 with seven RBIs last week.
Bret Boswell led Cleburne last week with eight RBIs and hit two home runs. Boswell is hitting .343 with eight home runs in 24 games in 2023.
Guilllermo Quintana went 7-for-18 with a home run last week. Quintana has an active six-game hit streak.
Chandler Casey (3-3), Michael Krauza (1-0) and Joe Corbett (3-3) all made two relief appearances against Chicago.
Casey led the bullpen with a total of four innings pitched, surrendering a run. Krauza got his third save of 2023 Friday. Corbett pitched two and 1/3 innings of shutout baseball, lowering his season ERA to 3.14.
With 13 games left in the regular season, Cleburne begins a six-game series against the league-leading Kansas City Monarchs Tuesday at 7:06 p.m. at La Moderna Field in Cleburne.
