CLEBURNE, Texas – The Cleburne Railroaders (45-50) are in fifth place with five days left in the regular season after losing four of six games to the Kane County Cougars (48-46) last week and splitting the first two games against the Lincoln Saltdogs Tuesday.
Cleburne is a half-game behind the Lake Country DuckHounds for fourth place and the final East Division playoff spot.
Kasey Kalich (4-3) and Travis Perry (6-7) each pitched quality starts against Kane County last week at La Moderna Field.
Kalich surrendered one earned run off three hits and a walk and struck out two batters through seven innings in Cleburne’s 2-1 walk-off victory August 23. Kalich pitched a complete game as he surrendered five earned runs off nine hits and three walks through six innings as Cleburne lost 5-1 in game one of a double-header against Lincoln Tuesday.
Travis Perry (6-7) pitched an eight-inning shutout as Cleburne lost 4-3 to Kane County in extra innings Saturday.
Miguel Ausua (2-2) earned the loss as he surrendered three earned runs through three innings pitched as Cleburne lost 4-0 in the Kane County series opener August 22. Ausua pitched four innings of shutout baseball in Sunday’s 6-5 victory in the Kane County series finale.
Kevin Hilton (7-4) pitched eight innings but surrendered five earned runs off 10 hits in Cleburne’s 6-1 loss Thursday. Hilton has pitched at least six innings in nine of his last 10 starts.
Jonathan Tripp (3-2) surrendered five earned runs but struck out seven batters through six innings pitched as Cleburne lost 8-5 Friday in his third start since Cleburne acquired him from Chicago in August. Tripp is 1-0 with a 4.43 ERA for Cleburne in 2023.
Chandler Casey (3-3) led Cleburne’s bullpen with five innings pitched and surrendered two earned runs off two hits and two walks and struck out five batters in two relief appearances against Kane County.
Hill Alexander hit safely in all six games as he went 8-for-24 from the plate against Kane County last week. Alexander has a nine-game hitting streak after hitting safely in Cleburne’s first two games against Lincoln Tuesday.
Bret Boswell led Cleburne with two home runs and four RBIs against Kane County last week.
Jose Sermo hit his team-leading 24th home run of 2023 to help Cleburne win Sunday.
Brian Klein went 5-for-17 from the plate in the Kane County series, including a three-hit game Friday.
Cleburne finishes its three-game series against Lincoln at 4:05 p.m. Thursday at Haymarket Park before ending the regular season with a four game series against the Sioux Falls Canaries (48-47) at 7:06 p.m. Friday at La Moderna Field. Cleburne went 3-1 against Sioux Falls in the 2023 opening series.
