RED OAK – Chris Martinez accounted for three touchdowns as the Red Oak Hawks beat the Centennial Spartans 35-32 Friday at Billy Goodloe Stadium to advance to the second round of the playoffs.
Martinez scored on a six-yard rush to make it a two-possession game and extend Red Oak’s lead over Centennial to 29-19 after the extra point with 9:13 left in the fourth quarter.
Martinez completed 14 of 21 passes for 288 yards and two touchdowns and threw an interception and ran for 85 yards and a touchdown on 14 carries in Red Oak’s win.
Red Oak’s Lorezo Holman scored on a nine-yard rush to give Red Oak a 22-19 lead with 3:24 left in the third quarter. Red Oak never gave up the lead after that.
Holman scored two touchdowns in the game.
After leading 19-15 at halftime, Centennial pulled within one possession twice in the second half but never retook the lead.
Centennial’s Keyshaun Tucker scored on a 38-yard rush to cut Red Oak’s lead to 35-32 after the extra point with 5:38 left in the fourth quarter. Red Oak got the ball after the following kickoff at their own 21-yard line and gained three first downs to hold the ball for the rest of the game.
Tucker rushed for 140 yards and two touchdowns on 16 carries and caught a 20-yard pass in Centennial’s loss.
Red Oak’s Taz Williams and Brayden Williams each caught six passes for over 100 yards and each scored a touchdown.
Centennial’s Kelian Gregory scored two touchdowns in Centennial’s loss.
Red Oak gained 437 yards to Centennial’s 336 in the game.
Centennial went 7-3 in the regular season and finished in fourth place in District 5A-1 Region I District 3 before being eliminated from the playoffs by Red Oak Friday.
