BURLESON and MANSFIELD – Sela Anderson threw a four-inning no-hitter as the starting pitchers for the Burleson Lady Elks varsity softball team allowed just two runs over 14 innings with the offense scoring 41 runs last week.
The freshman starting-pitcher Anderson (four innings pitched) and her fellow starting-pitchers sophomore Ryan Hovland (five innings) and junior Katey Conger (five innings) pitched complete games as the Lady Elks’ leads were enough to end each game early.
Anderson earned her win allowing no hits and just two walks and striking out four batters over four innings pitched as the Lady Elks beat the Mansfield-Summit Lady Jaguars 15-0 April 2 at Burleson High School. Anderson went 1-for-3 at the plate with a double and two RBIs.
In the April 2 win over Summit, each of Burleson’s first three hitters – freshman left-fielder Daelyn Gonzales, freshman center-fielder Kaydan Dorman and senior first-baseman Olivia Marks – scored a game-high three runs with Marks (2-for-3 with a double and a walk) also driving in a game-high two runs.
Hovland homered at the plate and earned the win on the mound striking out nine while surrendering two earned runs on one hit and two walks as the Lady Elks beat the Mansfield-Timberview Lady Wolves 15-2 Friday at Timberview High School. Hovland went 2-for-4 with the home run – a two-run shot to center in the top of the fourth inning.
Freshman center-fielder Addy Sellers (1-for-4) hit the Lady Elks’ other home run – a three-run shot to left in the top of the third-inning – against Timberview Friday. Senior second-baseman Macy Browder went 3-for-3 with a double, an RBI and a run scored in the win.
Conger pitched a complete-game shutout – allowing just four hits and no walks and striking out two – as the Lady Elks beat the Seguin Cougars 11-0 Saturday in Burleson. Conger went 1-for-3 at the plate.
Sophomore catcher Lola Andrews went 2-for-3 with a two-run homer in Saturday’s win over Seguin.
The Lady Elks (7-6 in District 8-5A, 14-10-1 overall) face the Cleburne Lady Yellow Jackets (4-8, 6-17-1) Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Cleburne High School and the Joshua Lady Owls (10-2, 22-8) Friday at 7 p.m. in Burleson.
