Spartans eliminated from playoff-contention

Seguin gets in over the Spartans after going 2-0 against them during regular season

BURLESON — Despite finishing the season with the same district-record as the playoff-bound Arlington Seguin Cougars, the Centennial Spartans varsity basketball team is eliminated from playoff-contention.

With Seguin’s 44-41 win over the Cleburne Yellow Jackets Tuesday in Cleburne, Seguin tied the Spartans at 8-8 in district. Because Seguin (8-8 in district, 19-14 overall) went 2-0 against the Spartans this season, they held the tiebreaker and won the fourth and final playoff spot of District 8-5A.

The Spartans (8-8, 13-19) went 8-4 over the final 12 district games after losing the first four and finished in fifth place.
