MIDLOTHIAN – The Centennial Spartans varsity boys basketball team lost its district-opener 41-40 to the Midlothian-Heritage Jaguars Tuesday at Midlothian High School.
After leading 33-29 at the end of the third quarter, the Spartans were outscored 12-7 by Midlothian-Heritage in the fourth quarter.
“We take the crookeds with the straights,” Spartans head basketball coach Trovocia Jackson stated in an email reflecting on the loss.
Junior forward Jared Cox led the Spartans with 12 points and added seven rebounds and a steal in the loss.
Senior guard Aiden Hicks led the Spartans with 10 rebounds and two steals and scored nine points.
Senior guard Iverson Moore added 10 points, four rebounds, two assists and a steal for the Spartans.
Sophomore guard Keylan Jones led the Spartans with three assists in the loss.
The Spartans (0-1 in district, 2-11 overall) face the Mansfield Summit Jaguars (1-0, 8-6) in their district home-opener Friday at 8 p.m. at Centennial High School. Mansfield Summit beat the Burleson Elks (0-1, 8-7) 72-33 Tuesday at Mansfield Summit High School in each team’s district opener.
