Spartans lose on walk-off touchdown to Red Oak on Homecoming Night
Centennial falls in back-and-forth homecoming game
BURLESON — The Centennial Spartans lost 41-39 to the Red Oak Hawks as Red Oak’s Billy Middleton scored a game-winning touchdown as time expired Friday at Burleson ISD Stadium in Centennial’s homecoming game.
The junior quarterback Hamilton’s game-winning one-yard touchdown run completed Red Oak’s drive after Centennial took a 39-35 lead on a rushing touchdown—and failed a two-point conversion attempt—with under a minute left in the fourth quarter.
After Red Oak scored three unanswered touchdowns in the third quarter to take a 28-21 lead into the fourth, Centennial had a chance to tie the game when sophomore quarterback Jacob Torres connected with senior receiver Damien Long on a seven-yard touchdown pass, but Centennial missed the extra-point attempt, bringing the score to 28-27 with about 11 minutes left in the game.
Torres completed 15 of 32 passes for 222 yards and two touchdown passes with an interception. Long led Centennial with six catches for 74 yards and the touchdown.

After Red Oak increased its lead to 35-27 on a rushing touchdown with about eight minutes left, Centennial had another chance to tie it after scoring a rushing touchdown but failed the two-point conversion attempt, bringing the score to 35-33 with under a minute left.
Centennial got on the board first with a 53-yard touchdown pass from Torres to senior receiver Keilan Gregory to give Centennial a 7-0 lead in the first quarter.
Gregory finished with the one touchdown reception and carried the ball twice for 10 rushing yards.

After Red Oak tied the game at 7-7 with a rushing touchdown in the first quarter, Centennial regained the lead with a rushing touchdown, bringing the score to 14-7 after the extra point with about 11 minutes left in the second quarter.
Centennial made it a two-score game as junior defensive back Marlon Land scored on a pick-six, increasing Centennial’s lead to 21-7 with under a minute left in the second quarter.
Senior receiver James Brown caught two passes for a team-leading 79 yards and ran for 26 yards—finishing with a team-leading 105 yards from scrimmage—and a touchdown on two carries.
Junior running back Jaylon Walker rushed for a team-leading 75 yards and a touchdown on 13 carries. Senior running back Jaxon Williams also scored a rushing touchdown and ran for 25 yards on eight carries.
Fourth-place Centennial will look to bounce back after the loss when it faces the first-place Highland Park Scots (4-0 in district, 7-1 overall) Friday at Highlander Stadium.
