Elks win homecoming game. Junior wide receiver Jaden Hernandez scored the game’s only touchdown as the Burleson Elks earned their first district win of 2024 with a victory over the Grapevine Mustangs Friday at Burleson ISD Stadium on Burleson’s homecoming night.

Sketch on a farm. Burleson Parks and Recreation hosts its “Saturday Morning Sketch Group” Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon at Chesapeake Building at Russell Farm Art Center.
Celebrate Founder’s Day. The city is holding its Founder’s Day celebration Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Mayor Vera Calvin Plaza with historical reenactments, live music, a car show, vendors and a “Kids Zone.”
Celebrate Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead). The Burleson Public Library is hosting “Día de los Muertos Stories and Sweets” Saturday from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the library where six-to-10-year-old attendees can sample sweets and discuss “A Dash of Trouble” by Anna Meriano.
Attend a concert on the lawn. “Spjork” is playing Saturday from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Lost Oak Winery.
Run from zombies. Hidden Creek Nutrition is hosting a “Zombie Fun Run 5k” Saturday from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Bailey Lake.
Celebrate Fall at a winery. Lost Oak Winery is hosting “Fall Fest” Sunday from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the winery with Texas High Road playing live music and Calhoun’s Country Smoke serving food.
Walk and talk about books. The Burleson Public Library is hosting their “Books Walks and Talks” event Tuesday from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Burleson Recreation Center (BRiCk) where attendees can talk about what they’re reading while walking.

Elks get first district win on homecoming night

BURLESON — The Burleson Elks earned their first district win of 2024 with a 9-0 victory over the Grapevine Mustangs Friday at Burleson ISD Stadium on Burleson’s homecoming night.
Junior receiver Jaden Hernandez scored the game’s only touchdown on a 19-yard pass from sophomore quarterback Andrew Sparks in the back of the end zone to increase the Elks’ lead over Grapevine to 9-0 with five minutes left in the game.
Hernandez finished with 70 receiving yards and the touchdown on five catches.

Sparks completed 18 of 24 passes for 153 yards and the touchdown pass and led the Elks with 78 rushing yards on 17 carries.

After a scoreless first half and eight minutes of the third quarter, senior kicker Gavin Kiene kicked a 29-yard field goal to give the Elks a 3-0 lead with 3:30 left in the third.
