City Council officially adopts budget
City Council officially adopted the fiscal-year 2023-24 budget, including a property-tax-rate decrease, Monday at its special session at City Hall.
Although the budget includes an 8.8% increase in property-tax revenue, Mayor Pro Tem Dan McClendon reiterated Burleson is lowering its property-tax rate.
Burleson 0-4 after 38-7 loss to Midlothian-Heritage
The Burleson Elks (0-4) turned the ball over twice in a 38-7 loss to the Midlothian-Heritage Jaguars (4-0) Thursday at Burleson ISD Stadium.
Burleson was outscored 38-0 after taking a 7-0 lead with 4:15 left in the first quarter.
Burleson has been outscored 150-41 through its first four games of 2023.
Burleson faces the Mansfield-Summit Jaguars (1-2) at 7 p.m. September 21 in Mansfield.
Railroaders eliminated
The Cleburne Railroaders were eliminated from the 2023 Wolff Cup Playoffs by the Chicago Dogs Saturday.
Chicago beat Cleburne 12-5 in game-three at Impact Field in Rosemont, Illinois, to win the East Division Series after evening the best-of-three series with a 5-2 victory over Cleburne in game two Friday.
Kasey Kalich (5-3) earned the loss after surrendering three earned runs off eight hits and two walks through five innings pitched in the win-or-go-home game-three loss.
Cleburne’s bullpen surrendered eight earned runs on nine hits and two walks through three innings pitched after relieving Kalich.
Johnathan Tripp (3-3) earned the loss after surrendering five earned runs off five hits and a walk as Chicago beat Cleburne 5-2 to even the series in Rosemont Friday.
Chicago’s Nick Green (6-5) pitched a quality start as he surrendered two runs and struck out nine Railroaders over seven innings pitched in Chicago’s 5-2 win Friday. Steven Lacey (2-1) earned the win as he held Cleburne to one run through five innings pitched in the series-clinching win Saturday.
