Lady Spartans win district championship on Martin’s walk-off home run
JOSHUA and BURLESON – The Centennial Lady Spartans varsity softball team won the District 8-5A Championship as Olivia Martin hit a walk-off home run to give Centennial a 4-3 win over the second-place Midlothian Lady Panthers Friday at Centennial.
The senior right-fielder Martin went 2-for-3 with her home run and another run scored in the Senior Night district-clinching win.
The Lady Spartans came into the game with a one-game lead over second-place Midlothian, but because Midlothian beat Centennial 11-9 March 23, the Lady Spartans had to win Friday to win district.
SOCCER: Lady Spartans’ Curs named District 8-5A MVP
BURLESON – The Centennial Lady Spartans varsity soccer team’s Journey Curs was named the District 8-5A Most Valuable Player to the District 8-5A First Team, Lady Spartans Soccer announced on X April 15.
In more district honors for Burleson, Burleson Lady Elks senior goalkeeper Peyton Roberts was named District 8-5A Goalkeeper of The Year, and senior midfielder/forward Katie Wong was named Midfielder of The Year, Lady Elks Soccer announced on X April 15.
Mohan keeps Spartans in playoff race with complete-game shutout
BURLESON and JOSHUA – Connor Mohan pitched a complete-game shutout as the Centennial Spartans varsity baseball team beat the Joshua Owls 1-0 Friday at Joshua High School to split the series after losing 6-5 Tuesday at Centennial.
The senior starting-pitcher Mohan earned the win, surrendering no runs and just one hit and one walk and striking out seven batters over all seven innings Friday.
Lady Elks hit back-to-back-to-back home runs en-route to winning final game of season
MIDLOTHIAN – Lola Andrews, Addy Sellers and Olivia Marks hit back-to-back-to-back home runs as the Burleson Lady Elks varsity softball team beat the Midlothian Lady Panthers 9-5 Tuesday at Midlothian High School.
With two outs in the top of the fourth inning, sophomore catcher Andrews hit a solo shot to left on the first pitch of her at-bat to give the Lady Elks a 1-0 lead. She led the team with three RBIs as she went 2-for-4 with the home run and a two-run double.
Freshman designated-hitter Sellers homered to left on the very next pitch, increasing Burleson’s lead to 2-0. Sellers went 2-for-4 with the home run, two RBIs and a team-leading two runs scored.
In her final high-school softball game, senior first-baseman Marks forced Midlothian to throw her a strike, bringing the count to 3-1 before she swung. Once she swung, she homered to left, increasing the Lady Elks’ lead to 3-0 in the top of the fourth. Marks went 2-for-4 with the home run and two RBIs.
Elks fall in final two games
BURLESON and MIDLOTHIAN – The Burleson Elks varsity baseball team lost its final two games of 2024 to the Midlothian Panthers last week despite a quality start from Landon Bedwell Friday.
The senior starting-pitcher Bedwell surrendered one unearned run off one hit and four walks and struck out nine batters over five innings pitched as the Elks fell 3-1 in Midlothian Friday.
