Former councilmember Matt Aiken passes
The City of Burleson announced Thursday former councilmember Matt Aiken passed away.
“Matt dedicated his heart and soul to serving the city of Burleson, leaving an indelible mark on all of us,” Burleson stated in its Facebook announcement.
Aiken served the Burleson City Council from 2010 to 2017.
BISD relieves Centennial wrestling coaches of duties upon allegations against assistant coach
Burleson ISD has relieved Centennial High School assistant wrestling coach Jacob Irwin and head wrestling coach Bill Wilson of all duties after learning about allegations against Irwin October 23.
A Centennial student complained about Irwin being creepy and speaking inappropriately, including making comments about having sex with student-wrestler’s parents, the student’s parent stated in a Facebook message.

Burleson Bark Park closed due to lead and arsenic in water
Burleson announced it closed Burleson Bark Park, 616 Memorial Plaza and the entrance to Memorial Plaza Monday after Pace Analytical environmental laboratory discovered lead and arsenic in park water samples.
Burleson is engaging environmental-services consulting firms to determine the source and nature of the contamination and if mitigation is required, Burleson stated in its announcement Monday.
Burleson submitted water samples to Pace Analytical October 27 after discovering “reddish” standing water near the dog park October 26.
Lady Elks and Lady Spartans Basketball Start Strong
The Burleson Elks girls varsity basketball team (1-0) beat the Grandview Zebras (0-1) 66-50 in their first game of the 2023-24 season November 3 at Burleson High School.
The Centennial Spartans girls varsity basketball team (3-1) beat the Mansfield Lady Tigers (0-1) 59-44 November 3, the Trimble Tech Lady Bulldogs (1-4) 73-15 and the North Mesquite Lady Stallions (1-4) 70-15 Thursday and lost to the Lake Ridge Lady Eagles (2-1) 49-31 Tuesday.
Railroaders announce 2024 schedule and name former Ranger Pete Incaviglia Manager
The Cleburne Railroaders released their 2024 schedule, including opening day festivities, the All-Star Break and other key games Tuesday and announced their new coaching staff, including former Texas Ranger Pete Incaviglia as the new manager Wednesday.

The Centennial Spartans varsity football team (7-3) will play the Red Oak Hawks (10-0) in the first round of the playoffs at 7 p.m. Friday at Billy Goodloe Stadium in Red Oak.
Elks and Spartans Basketball
The Burleson Elks and Centennial Spartans boys varsity basketball teams will play their first games of the 2023-24 season over the weekend.
The Elks (10-22 in 2022-23) will play their first game of the 2023-24 season against the Creekview Mustangs (7-22 in 2023-24) at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Carrolton Creekview High School, then the Crockett Cougars (8-25 in 2022-23) at 5:30 p.m. Saturday at Midway High School.
The Spartans (28-8 in 2022-23) will play the Mansfield Tigers (17-14 in 2022-23) at 4:30 p.m. at Mansfield High School, then the A&M Consolidated Tigers (26-9 in 2022-23) at 7 p.m. Saturday at A&M Consolidated High School.
Burleson Area Chamber of Commerce Events
The Burleson Area Chamber of Commerce will host its monthly “Network@Night” at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday at Mimosa Hall and its “Lunch N Learn” at noon Thursday at First Baptist Church of Burleson.
