Tuesday was Rivalry Night for the Burleson Elks and Centennial Spartans basketball teams. The Elks fell to the Spartans and almost lost their third-straight district game to Midlothian-Heritage Friday before coming back from down 16 in the fourth quarter to win behind 39 points from senior guard Tamaje Izuagbe.
Burleson’s varsity teams went .500 during the week as the fourth-place Lady Elks upset the second-place Lady Spartans behind a double-double performance from senior Kendall Carlock Tuesday before falling to Midlothian-Heritage Friday.
The Spartans came out hot to avenge their sister team Tuesday, outscoring the Elks 21-5 in the first quarter en route to winning the Rivalry Night main event.

Tamaje Izuagbe led the Elks with 39 points and 10 rebounds as the Elks came back to win after being down 16 in the fourth quarter against Midlothian-Heritage Friday.
The Elks were down 49-42 at the end of the third quarter and were down 64-48 with 3:10 left in the game before they came back to win.
The Lady Elks won the first varsity matchup of Rivalry Night with an upset 45-28 win over the second-place Centennial Lady Spartans Tuesday at Burleson High School.
Senior forward Kendall Carlock and senior guard E’Marie Lewis led the Lady Elks with 12 points each in the win. Carlock added 12 rebounds for a double-double performance.
The Centennial Spartans kept their feet on the gas after a hot start as they avenged the Lady Spartans in a 68-30 win over the Burleson Elks in the Rivalry Night main event Tuesday at Burleson.
After stressing the importance of the Spartans being consistent last week, Spartans head coach Trovocia Jackson said he was proud of his team for their consistency in the win as they outscored the Elks in every quarter, including 21-5 in the first quarter behind nine first-quarter points from junior guard Abram Hicks.
Centennial to play Midlothian-Heritage in return from bye
The Centennial Spartans and Lady Spartans return to action against Midlothian-Heritage Tuesday at Centennial after not playing Friday.
The Lady Spartans kick things off at 6:30 p.m. The Spartans follow at 8 p.m.
