SOFTBALL: Lindemuth breaks games–played record with shutout win, Ellis pitches no-hitter in Lady Spartans’ perfect week
BURLESON and MANSFIELD – Bailey Lindemuth pitched a five-inning shutout in her record-setting 122nd game for the Centennial Lady Spartans varsity softball team as the Lady Spartans beat the Midlothian-Heritage Lady Jaguars 10-0 Tuesday at Centennial.
The senior pitcher Lindemuth earned the win striking out six batters and surrendering two hits and a walk Tuesday. She went 2-for-4 at the plate with a game-sealing RBI as she broke the record for most varsity games played for the Lady Spartans set by Madi Sue Montgomery (played at Oklahoma State University after graduating from Centennial in 2015).
Lindemuth homered twice as Centennial went on to win all three games last week including a 15-0 victory on freshman pitcher Ava Ellis’s three-inning no-hitter against the Mansfield-Timberview Lady Wolves Saturday at Centennial.
SOFTBALL: Anderson throws no-hitter as Lady Elks starting pitchers dominate
BURLESON and MANSFIELD – Sela Anderson threw a four-inning no-hitter as the starting pitchers for the Burleson Lady Elks varsity softball team allowed just two runs over 14 innings with the offense scoring 41 runs last week.
The freshman starting-pitcher Anderson (four innings pitched) and her fellow starting-pitchers sophomore Ryan Hovland (five innings) and junior Katey Conger (five innings) pitched complete games as the Lady Elks’ leads were enough to end each game early.
Anderson earned her win allowing no hits and just two walks and striking out four batters over four innings pitched as the Lady Elks beat the Mansfield-Summit Lady Jaguars 15-0 April 2 at Burleson High School. Anderson went 1-for-3 at the plate with a double and two RBIs.
BASEBALL: Darst and Bruder lead Elks to two shutout victories
BURLESON and CLEBURNE — Starting-pitchers Isaac Darst and Brayden Bruder combined for 11 shutout innings in their respective wins as the Burleson Elks varsity baseball team won two of three games – shutting out the first-place Cleburne Yellow Jackets and the Mansfield-Summit Jaguars last week.
Junior starting-pitcher Darst threw a complete-game shutout — surrendering one hit and two walks and striking out five batters over seven innings pitched — as the Elks defeated the first-place Yellow Jackets 1-0 in game-one of a two-game series Tuesday at Burleson High School.
BASEBALL: Womack’s game-one shutout helps Spartans sweep Seguin
BURLESON and ARLINGTON – The Centennial Spartans varsity baseball team swept the Seguin Cougars last week behind Parker Womack’s four-inning shutout in game-one and the Spartans 17 walks in game-two last week.
The senior starting-pitcher Womack earned the win striking out six batters and surrendering two hits and no walks over four innings pitched as the Spartans beat the Cougars 10-0 in game-one Tuesday at Centennial. He went 2-for-2 at the plate with a double, a walk and two RBIs.
Senior center-fielder/relief-pitcher Kenny Fritz relieved Womack in the top of the fifth inning and pitched the last two innings of the game, striking out five without allowing a single baserunner. He went 1-for-3 at the plate with a home run, a game-high three RBIs and a game-high two runs scored in Tuesday’s win.
